Here’s a glorious quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson about starting each day fresh, with a clean slate.
New Day, Fresh Start….
“Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
I posted this on my son’s wall when he was little because he was constantly worrying that mistakes made today would follow him into the next day. Each night we read it out loud and pretty soon he wasn’t as anxious about mistakes following him into tomorrow.
This quote came to my mind again after a particularly depressing time. With the separation and my son leaving to stay at the wasband’s, I felt sorry for myself. No friends were called. I didn’t feel like going out. I spent most days and nights alone, feeling very isolated, wandering around in a fog.
Before I knew, I’d wasted practically a month in thinking about the regrets and sorrows of the past while. I needed to “own” my days otherwise I might lose years to “fret and anxiety.” I’ve seen other people succumb to it.
Therefore I resolve to forget my blunders and absurdities and begin each day, and the rest of my life, serenely. There will be days when I wake up with my spirits not be as high as I like but, hopefully, each day it will get easier.
Being single and alone is still fairly new to me and it’s a bit rough right now. But it’s going to get better. Each day, it will get better.
You are never really alone, you have a family who is dedicated to you, and that loves you!
