The Fifty – Fifty Round Up

Fifty ways to Celebrate my Fiftieth Birthday

So with the close of my 50th birthday year celebration, it’s time to see how I did on my 50 – 50 list.  Although I only made it to 41 items in total.

The list has changed very slightly during the course of the year.

The Necessity of Spa Days

Taking Care of Moi

Like a fine wine, I find that I too need a little tender care in a controlled environment to reach my full potential.

So I schedule a spa day.

This is a fairly new phenomenon for me, basically in the last decade. Prior to this time funding was always an issue. Now, however, I rationalize the expense citing that I spend a lot of time tending to others, now it’s time for others to tend to me. Continue reading

Norman – A Man of Character

Norman’s House of Flowers

I’ve walked past his house many times over the years. It’s on the way to a store I frequent. In the spring and summer, his front yard is full of flowers. It’s in stark contrast to all the carefully manicured lawns around him.

All these years I’ve enjoyed the garden during every season yet I’ve never seen the person or people who inhabit this house. Until today. Today, I met Norman.

I was standing in front of his house, admiring the field of poppy plants springing up amongst the hyacinths and daffodils. “Spring is on the way!” he said. “And isn’t it grand!” I replied. Continue reading
